A Place for Our Cook Books

A Teredo Cookbook Shelf

Cookbooks are nice on have on hand close to the kitchen. And we have many (these are not all of them).  So last week Alex and I ventured out to a store called Second Use and found some reclaimed wood to build a shelf for our numerous cookbooks. We found a Teredo wood plank. This wood is cut from saltwater logs found all over the PUGET SOUND beaches. If you head to this webpage called Recycled Saltwater Wood you will be able to find out how it is done.

This particular wood has been infested with Teredo Clams that bored holes in the wood. These clams spend their entire life span in these logs creating tunnels that rarely intersect. The clams may be long gone but their holes remain, lending a rustic beauty to the wood. Stained, they are really stunning. And now we can proudly display our cookbooks in an easy to read area.
